ZIMBABWE

A real favourite, the Zimbabweans are just the friendliest people and they are the best guides going in Africa.  Their rigorous training really shines through when you are out in the bush here and they can’t wait to show you everything there is, which is a lot. There’s a wonderful mix of the more old school Zimbabwean guides and some entrepreneurial and energetic younger ones building great reputations and camps. So, there is something for everyone in this landlocked country whether it’s bird watching on Lake Kariba in Matusadona National Park or white water rafting in the spray of the mighty Victoria Falls; and the wildlife is in great shape, on a par with its closest neighbours Botswana and Zambia, but your money can stretch a little bit further.

Conservation efforts in Zimbabwe have been impressive to say the least and Hwange National Park (the largest in the country) has abundant elephant numbers and sightings, often all-around camp too and it is great for really productive game drives. Mana Pools thrives between August and November as the inland water dries up and the animals all head to the river banks; it has some gorgeous riverside camps to base yourselves at while you walk in the beautiful groves of riverine mahoganies and acacia woodlands or boat/canoe along the river with views over into Zambia and the escarpment in the distance. It really does boast the most breath-taking sunsets over the river here and what better way to enjoy that than with an icy cocktail on a slow boat.

Zimbabwe can offer many different combinations of safari and, for those well-travelled safari-lovers seeking pristine wilderness and remoteness, Gonarezhou National Park down in the very south cannot be forgotten. It is wild and rugged and you need to be with the right guide there which we can arrange for you, and it’s worth visiting nearby Chilo Gorge and the wonderful cultural and conservation projects there.

Victoria Falls is a sight to behold and easy to walk around on the Zimbabwean side with lots of viewpoints, but you can opt to microlight over, take a helicopter ride over it, zip wire over the gorge or white water raft below it along the Zambezi. The options are endless, but you could also be forgiven for just wanting to relax in one of the beautiful lodges along the river out of town and away from all of the action, you are immediately back in the bush and nature.
